A Population of Dipper Stars from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite Mission

چکیده

Dipper stars are a classification of young stellar objects that exhibit dimming variability in their light curves, dropping brightness by 10-50%, likely induced occultations due to circumstellar disk material. This can be periodic, quasi-periodic, or aperiodic. have been discovered associations via ground-based and space-based photometric surveys. We present the detection characterization largest collection dipper date: 293 stars, including 234 new candidates. produced catalog these targets, which also includes variables predominately bursting-like symmetric (equal parts bursting dipping). The total number sources is 414. These variable were found visual survey TESS where dipping-like was observed. typical age among our <5 Myr, with distribution peaking at ~2 tail extending ages older than 20 Myr. Regardless age, candidates tend infrared excess, indicative presence disks. now observing ecliptic plane, rich associations, so we anticipate many more discoveries dataset. A larger sample would enhance census statistics curve morphologies ages.

Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) will search for planets transiting bright and nearby stars. TESS has been selected by NASA for launch in 2017 as an Astrophysics Explorer mission. The spacecraft will be placed into a highly elliptical 13.7-day orbit around the Earth. During its 2-year mission, TESS will employ four wide-field optical charge-coupled device cameras to monitor at l...

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite: Simulations of Planet Detections and Astrophysical False Positives

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a NASA-sponsored Explorer mission that will perform a wide-field survey for planets that transit bright host stars. Here, we predict the properties of the transiting planets that TESS will detect along with the EB stars that produce false-positive photometric signals. The predictions are based on Monte Carlo simulations of the nearby populatio...

Expected Planet and False Positive Detection Rates for the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite

The proposed Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) will survey the entire sky to locate the nearest and brightest transiting extrasolar planets with orbital periods up to about 36 days. Here we estimate the number and kind of astrophysical false positives that TESS will report, along with the number of extrasolar planets. These estimates are then used to size the groundbased follow-up ob...

A Smaller Radius for the Transiting Exoplanet

We present photometry of WASP-10 during a transit of its short–period Jovian planet. We employed the novel PSF–shaping capabilities of the OPTIC camera mounted on the UH 2.2m telescope to achieve a photometric precision of 4.7 × 10 per 1.3 min sample. With this new light curve, in conjunction with stellar evolutionary models, we improve on existing measurements of the planetary, stellar and orb...
